Definitive Christianity #1: the Kingdom of God

Repent ye, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

 

Too often, Christians are guilty of imagining the Kingdom of God to be a celestial Disney World. If we think on it at all, we might imagine a heavenly Mediaeval Times, where the King sits in a balcony above the jousting pitch while we sit courtside, celebrating and shouting ‘Huzzah!’ at the Great Wedding Feast.

Or perhaps we look towards a Second Coming, where the Messiah descends upon Jerusalem and takes His throne and we… sit courtside, celebrating and shouting ‘Huzzah!’ before we go our ways to our houses and think to ourselves, ‘Now things shall be in order and the trains will run on time.’

This does a great disservice to Christ, and a lack of understanding this word robs His people of both an awareness of their position and comfort in their ruler.

The word “kingdom” in the Greek is “basileia” (Strong’s Greek 932) and the definition is particular in its emphasis:

” …not to be confused with an actual kingdom, but rather, the right or authority to rule over a kingdom.


“Kingdom” clearly speaks of and to the authority of Christ – His right to be ruler.

 

Yet it is impossible for the natural man to perceive this, much less submit to it:

If one has the Spirit, then one will display the fruits thereof. And what are those fruits?

If the Spirit is what allows a man to enter the authority of God,

and its presence is evidenced by righteousness,

… should we then be surprised at what is said of the unrighteous?

Pay special attention to that word, ‘inherit.’

The Greek for that one is “klēronomeō” (Strong’s 2816) and means

“to receive by lot, to receive as an inheritance, to be an heir.”

And who is an heir but those who are Family?

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us,

So then, the unrighteous are

not born of the Spirit

not able to know the things of God

not in the Family

not of Christ!!!

 

We see many “professors” – those who Claim The Name –

But do they obey Him?

A Christian who examines one’s own life in this light can do nothing more than to be:

Are you seeking the Kingdom of Christ?

Heed the warning and give praise –
